Charm bracelets were originally worn as a symbol of religion. They were first worn in 400-500BC and were made from gemstones such as Lapis Lazuli and Rock Crystal. These stones were inscribed with religious symbols and were deemed to have spiritual and protective powers.

As time has passed the Charm Bracelet has become more of a fashion piece. Queen Victoria is said to have been very fond of her chram bracelet which had lockets with pictures of her family inside.  In the 1960-70’s there was a trend to buy a young girl a bracelet and then add and collect charms for special occassions, such as birthdays or family events.

Presently Charm Bracelets have become  a very popular piece of jewellery. Most charm bracelets are fully made with a great variety of charms. Clutch and Clasp offer a range of semi-precious stones charm bracelets in 3 different sizes, from small 8mm-12mm stones to very large chunky pieces. All of the bracelets are sterling silver.

A new collection of Lariat necklaces have arrived due to the success of the current collection. Clutch and Clasp have new designs in winter colour paletes of; red (agate), black (onyx and hematite), brown (carnelian and tiger’s eye) and purple (amethyst)! Within the new range we have also used gold freshwater pearls which makes an unusual piece! As with all of the products there are a variety of natural semi-precious stones used on each piece! Each lariat consits of a neutral beige leather thong so as not to distract from the vibrancy of the coloured stones.The lariat style is a popular style as it is easy to wear as described in our last blog entry. These new colour themes compliment the current fashion paletes with the clothing market so would compliment any outfit!

Lariat necklaces have become increasingly popular over the past year. They are basically a long necklace, whether in one uncut length or a joined at each end as a standard necklace. They can come in a variety of guises using sterling silver as the chain, or as with the current fashion, using leather or suede lengths. Normally a variety of semi-precious stones or charms are placed the whole way along the length of the necklace.

Due to a lariat’s length, the necklace can be worn a variety of ways, either left to fall down the body in one length or wrapped over twice to fall shorter between or above the chest. Uncut lengths can also be worn in many more ways, allowing for the wearer to wear as a bracelet or indeed a belt.

The Clutch and Clasp website was finally launched a few weeks ago!! Thanks to all for the great feedback and orders that we have been receiving. As stated we specialise in semi-precious stones, which can be dyed, (heat treated) to achieve beautiful vivid colur hues. We offer beautiful pieces that have been made by professional jewellery designers who source their materials worldwide.

As it is now about 7 weeks until Christmas we have now added most of our Christmas Collection, there will be some more styles to come, hopefully within the next week or two! The Christmas colour palete is very strong and eye catching!! From candy pink jade, red jade, black onyx, black freshwater pearls to gold pearls!! The pieces have already been greatly admired and are selling well. Our Limited Edition Collection is also worth a look as the pieces within this section are only made up in small quantities, infact we are due to launch one off pieces soon, therefore making a great and unusual gift as you will not see many people with the same piece!
