Are Turquoise and Howlite the same stone?
Natural turquoise can have brown, black or grey veining running visibly through the stone. This veining is due to inclusions or oxide staining. Turquoise is a soft opaque stone whose blue colour is due to the presence of copper.
Natural Howlite is actually naturally a white colour. Howlite is porous which can therefore allow for treatment to achieve various colours. Perhaps the most common colour it is dyed to achieve is the colour Turquoise.
Therefore both Turquoise and Howlite are both natural stones but are not naturally the same colour.
